Written Reflection: PART 1
Who is your subject matter? In what way did you disguise them? (wigs? costume? hiding face?)
Monica is my subject matter. I tried disguising her with the sheet over her face and her hair falling in front of her face.
How close or far away are you from your subject?
I wanted the photos to feel closer to her, i tried doing it mostly face shots instead of body shots.
What is the setting of your photo? How does the setting create mystery?
The setting of the photo is just plain black background but with her clearly in light. It causes mystery because she is covered and barely showing her face making you wonder why she has the cloth over her face, is it a religious reason? Is she trying to hide something?
What photographer/artist most influenced your photos
There wasn't any photographer who influenced me. I had a vision and I went for it.
Written Reflection: PART 2
How did alter the photo in photoshop by blurring, layering or modifyingin other ways? How did your edits change or increase the meaning or concept of your photo?
For my altered photos I took a photo offline and put it as the background as the first one, trying to make it feel a little more religious. In the other edited ones I smudged her eyes all black and tried to make it look smeered down her face in a way. I also took some of the previous photo I've taken and multiplied it by 3 and lowered the opacity to make it look dimmer in the background.
What message are you sending when you conceal your subjectʼs identity?
The message I was trying to send was a religious woman hiding herself obviously with the cloth but also literally hiding who she is on the inside because she can't, because she is a woman. In the edited ones I wanted to do kind of a twisted religion with her eyes. It causes an eerie feeling.
What photographer/artist most influenced your photos?
Nobody.
Written Reflection: PART 3
How did you alter your printed portrait?
I printed it out and then put a glove on my hand and smudged paint down it causing it too look like someone just slapped a hand on it. I also scratched it up with a billow pad.
Did you cut it up? Paint over it?Glue/Layer text or other images on the top?
I painted over it.
How did these changes create/enhance the meaning of your photo?
These things I did to alter the photo definitely enhanced the mystery in the photo
Which of the three directions is the strongest work? Why?
My first are the strongest, I love the natural photos with the direct lighting on her, its personal yet mysterious.
